Cincinnati Jewish Recovery

A 12-Step meeting and class for Jewish men and women in recovery from alcoholism, addiction and related problems.

In a crisis? Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911.

Every week

Open Jewish Recovery Meeting

  • Wednesdays 7:00–8:00 PM

Call or text 513-307-2386 for the location or the Zoom link.

Who can come

Anyone with a desire to recover

The only requirements are participation in a related 12-Step or other primary program (or the intention to do so) and a desire to recover.

The goal is to obtain and maintain recovery, and to bring the spiritual 12-Step approach together with our Judaism.

“…we don’t recover by ourselves. We need each other to support each other.”

More than a meeting.

Much of the group’s support happens around a table.

Meals

Sober Shabbos

Shabbos and holiday meals, with a recovery meal about once a month.

Passover

Sober Passover Seder

A Seder where people can speak openly about recovery.

Holidays

Through the year

Over the years: lunch in the sukkah, a Lag B’Omer bonfire, Sober Chanukah dinners, a Purim party and challah baking.

Rabbi Karp

One-on-one

Rabbi Karp meets with people one-on-one. In 2012 that came to about 500 individual sessions.

Zoom

Near and far

In 2021 the meeting moved onto Zoom, and members joined from several states.

Schools

Prevention

Rabbi Karp has brought talks about addiction to local schools, with speakers in recovery.

In their words.

“…recovery is hard wherever you come from and whatever you’re recovering from. But it’s maybe even harder in the Jewish community because we don’t maybe talk about it enough.”

Nan Franks, CEO, Addiction Services Council, in the JEEP film

“I know that when I went to the other 12-step program literally there were five other Jewish people. We sort of stood out like sore thumbs.”

“I resisted coming to JEEP events for a long time. But now that I’m here, I’m really glad, I feel the caring. It’s good.”
