Children at risk
A door into Jewish life, for the whole family.
Some Jewish children live with abuse or neglect, poverty, or substance abuse at home. JEEP brings them Jewish learning and Jewish life. This can open the door to helping the whole family.
What we do
In 2014, JEEP worked with 22 children.
Scholarships and rides
Camp and school
We help families get scholarships and rides to Jewish camp and school, and we help families and schools talk to each other.
Shabbos
Shabbos at home
Shabbos parties in the family’s own home, where young children learn about being Jewish.
Lessons
Tutoring
Individual lessons and tutoring. In 2012, JEEP gave one family eight hours of teaching a week.
In a crisis
Working together
When a family is in crisis, we work with the family, the police and other agencies, and we keep the children learning.
Stories.
Two stories from Headlights, 2021.
Spring 2021
One snowy night
Three generations of one family came to JEEP one snowy night. JEEP gave them clothes and dinner, and the youngest, a boy, had his first Jewish lesson. When Headlights told the story, he was saying the Shema every night.
Fall 2021
Jeans and sneakers
A boy who was the only Jewish kid in his school put on tefillin for his Bar Mitzvah in a picnic shelter at French Park, in jeans and sneakers.
“This feels really special. It’s so cool!”
